Playing the Odds through Time: A Short History of Gambling

Our ancestors probably made up games of chance long before civilization existed on our planet.  We have been matching skills and betting on possible outcomes for as long as anyone has owned a possession worth envying.  Gambling is in our souls, and modern culture so loves gambling that almost certainly even the smallest nation has laws and agencies which are connected only with gaming.  Academic institutions study why we gamble addictively to help society understand just why people take chances.
