Let Me Tell You About Wine and Cheese Clubs

The popularity of the dozens of “Of the Month Clubs” that exist may be the reason that some of these clubs seem to be spawning offshoots and variations of themselves. Probably one of the oldest of these types of clubs is the wine of the month. These, along with cheese of the month clubs may be among the most popular. This is likely the reason that some companies that offer these club memberships are combining the two into wine and cheese of the month clubs.

Different Types of Wine and Cheese of the Month Memberships
There seems to be two different ways that you can have the advantages of both a wine of the month and cheese of the month membership.

1. Wine and Cheese of the Month – This type of membership gives you a shipment of wine and a shipment of cheese for each month of your membership. You can choose memberships that run for either three, six, nine, or twelve months.

With a lot of these types of memberships, your wine and cheese are shipped separately. The wine you get is not necessarily paired with the cheeses. Most people probably don’t mind because they still have the opportunity to sample one or two new wines each month and discover two or three different cheeses.

2. Mix and match club memberships – Quite a few companies that offer a variety of “of the month clubs” will let you design your own membership. For instance, if you join a self-designed club like this for a year, you can get something different each month of the year.

To make your personalized membership be exclusively for wine and cheese, you can select exactly what you want to receive each month. One month you can choose wine and the next month set it up so that you receive cheese. You can elect to receive wine three months in a row and then cheese for the next three. You are free to decide.

What You Get with Your Membership
Most clubs have different levels of membership, especially wine clubs. They often have three levels of pricing. The more you pay for your membership, the higher quality wines you will receive. You usually get two bottles of wine per month. No matter what level you sign up for, you are normally given the option to choose whether want all red wine, all white wine, or one bottle of each.

Most cheese clubs don’t offer a choice for what cheeses you will receive, but they often have predetermined what cheeses will be offered for each month so that you can see what you will be getting. They tend to stick to that schedule unless they come across an unusual or hard to find cheese. They may replace one of the scheduled cheeses with that so they can take advantage of its availability.

Some clubs have a monthly newsletter regarding that are full of information about different wines and cheeses, including proper wine and cheese pairings.
