The internet is a marvelous creation. When people speak of the internet, they instantly associate it as a medium of entertainment. It is not only a source of entertainment but also a marvellous place of commerce.


When buying large ticket items like LCD TVs, Plasma TVs or kitchen appliances like a refrigerator or cooktop, it is always best to research the product thoroughly before making a purchase. The easiest way of doing this is by visiting consumer comparison websites.  Of course, I prefer to check sites like Amazon and Consumer Reports. Epinions was another great review site but they have changed the way they operate.

You can often find consumer reviews on a certain product; it is also much easier to compare prices of products in the comfort of your own home without traveling to a lot of stores. With all of the research available on the Web, online shoppers or more likely to make a great decision when buying new products.

Add to that the fact that stores are usually packed with shoppers during the holiday season. And parking becomes a major chore when you visit the most popular malls and shopping centers. And the weather isn't always cooperative when you go shopping during the holidays, either. Snow, ice and big holiday crowds can turn a relaxed shopping trip into a trying event.

And then there is the inconvenience of having to carry your merchandise to and from your car.  LCD and Plasma TVs are growing in popularity and are becoming more affordable, but these items are rather large and unwieldy. When buying large products in a store one needs to balance his or her research with the need to lift the item into the shopping cart, maneuver it through the store, pack it into the car, and then transport it into the house.

When dealing with an appliance that people cannot lift alone like refrigerators or stoves the chore of shopping at a brick and mortar store turns into a nightmare. An online shopper, on the other hand, merely clicks on add to cart and home delivery comes naturally.

Online stores also run sales and promotions just like brick and mortar stores. And sometimes the delivery fee is reduced or eliminated. Not only do online shoppers save themselves some stress and get great deals, they may also get early bird specials in the comfort of their own homes.

Although buried in pictures of cute cats and streaming video, the internet is a bustling world of commerce and it's all focused around convenience.  I think there is much more to be said about how much the Internet has changed our lives for the better.
